Metacrisis: Rethinking Contemporary Transformations in Society and Clinical Practice

The multiple crises facing contemporary society—ecological, geopolitical, migratory, economical, mental health—are not separate phenomena. Rather, they represent interconnected expressions of a single underlying process: a metacrisis. Systemic thinking offers a powerful framework to understand the epistemological roots of this process as well as its possible future developments, both at the macro level (societal and global dynamics) and at the micro level (everyday life and clinical practice).

This conference aims to address both dimensions. It seeks to provide conceptual frameworks to help navigate an increasingly complex and rapidly transforming world, while also exploring the concrete implications and challenges for clinical systemic practice in its many forms. These include our changing relationship with the environment and time; the growing role of technologies, particularly artificial intelligence—in daily life; population ageing; social precarization; migration; emerging addictions; increasing polarization and violence; and the evolution of family forms.

The conference is conceived as a crossroads for systemic practitioners from different countries, and as an incubator for new ideas and connections. Through an alternation of plenary keynote sessions and experiential smaller-scale workshops held in different languages, the event emphasizes interactivity, dialogue, and cross-disciplinary exchange as core principles.
